COURSE CONTENT

The 300 hour training requires you to log 270 hours of studio-based contact. This is divided into Core Modules (18 days) and Electives (20 days). While Core Modules are mandatory, Electives can be selected from our collection of Courses. The remaining 30 hours are 'non-contact' and completed in your own time with study and assessment.

CORE MODULES

Core Modules are mandatory units of study that are divided into modules and represent 18 days of contact time. Each module is condensed into 3 days so that each weekend stands alone, making it easier for you to spread the training.

UNIT 1 TECHNIQUES, TRAINING & PRACTICE

Asana and Movement Fundamentals - practice, sequencing and teaching. Applied anatomy. Pranayama Fundamentals - practice and teaching. Relaxation methods. Meditation/Concentration techniques.

UNIT 2 TEACHING METHODOLOGY

UNIT 3 ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY

Physical Anatomy with an experiential approach (finding the felt-sense of systems and structures). Alignment and Adaptations - what, when and why. Subtle Anatomy - chakra system, pranic system, kosha model.

UNIT 4 YOGA PHILOSOPHY, LIFESTYLE & ETHICS

History of  Modern Postural Yoga - as it is told today. Contemporary Yoga Culture - thorny issues, Selected Texts for Study, including but not exclusively, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and the Vijnanabhairava Tantra. Sanskrit Fundamentals - key terminology. Philosophy Fundamentals - getting to grips with concepts.

UNIT 5 PRACTICUM

Teaching Practice in peer to peer setting. Giving and receiving feedback. Self-evaluation techniques. Teaching your own 6 week course to friends/family/colleagues.

Where and when are will the training days be held?

"This training is a journey that takes you exactly where you need to be, not necessarily where you thought you were going.

Go with an open heart and mind and it will be one of the greatest journeys of your life!"

What kind of study is involved and how will you be assessed?

STUDY & ASSESSMENT

Throughout the 300 hour training, you'll need to set aside time to dive into the required study. This is necessary for building up your 30 hours of non-contact time required to reach the 300 hour expectation. You'll also need to complete various assignments, practical assessments as well as attend training days and observations in order to graduate. Details below.

STUDY

PRE-COURSE STUDY

You'll need to complete 30-40 hours of study before you begin the course (such as reading, research and self-reflective work). You can start this study at any time. This contributes to your non-contact hours.

ONLINE ANATOMY COURSE

If you haven't already completed the online Anatomy Course (part of the Barefoot Body 200hour Training) you'll need to set aside time for that. This will contribute 20 hours of your necessary contact hours requirement. Please note that you'll also need to pay a £150 fee.

ON-COURSE STUDY

You'll be required to do some reading or research to prepare for each training weekend so that you can fully participate in discussions. Your tutors will guide you on this, but as a guideline you should aim to allow a couple of hours a week for home study.

MATERIALS

Before the first training weekend you'll be sent a course reading list which includes texts that you'll need to get hold of. All other materials including course handouts will be provided for each module as necessary. You'll also need access to a computer, internet, camera, printer, and stationery.  Mats and props are provided on trainings days at the ARC Centre.

In addition to studio contact hours, you'll need to successfully complete a number of written assignments and practical assessments. These are designed for you to demonstrate your skills and learning, and for tutors to offer constructive feedback.

ASSESSMENTSFOR CORE MODULES

  • 3 written assignments and a variety of worksheets

  • Self-reflective practice journals

  • Glossary of yogic terms & concepts

  • Personal teaching reference portfolio

  • 6-week "improvers" course to be taught to a small group (4-8 people)

  • Ongoing assessment of teaching skills through core modules

  • Video recording of your class teaching

  • You are also required to attend and log at least 20 yoga classes over the course of the training as well as 4 class observations with a suitably qualified teacher

ASSESSMENTS FOR ELECTIVES

Each of the Electives will have their own assessment methods and criteria along similar lines to the Core Modules (see above). Find out more on each individual course page. View collection of Electives here >

ATTENDANCE

There is a minimum requirement for successful Yoga Alliance certification of 270 contact hours or studio time distributed throughout Core Modules and Electives. You don't have to attend all the Core Modules in one year so if you miss one, you're able to make it up the following year. If, however, you're signed up to attend a training for a Core Module or Elective and are unable to make one of the days, we'll help you catch up the content you missed with the relevant tutor, usually via Skype/Zoom. Please note that an additional fee is payable in these cases.
