QUIET PRACTICE

CREATING A CONTEMPLATIVE PRACTICE

RESOURCES, PRACTICE GUIDES AND MENTORING

If you have ever 'tried to meditate' and fallen out of practice or out of love with the idea, then we welcome you into this guided course. We'll take you right back to basics, examining some accessible neuroscience, yogic concepts and guide you into phenomenological thought in order to help you define what a Quiet Practice means to you and what it might look like.

We have organised our content into 6 Pools of written guides, journaling promps, and audio and video resources and we aim to keep you on track with a mentoring session as you complete each stage of reflections and practice.

You can work through the material at your own pace but we suggest that you plan for at least 6 weeks and perhaps no more than 12 weeks to feel complete.

This course is a stand-alone but also forms part of our 300H teacher training programme.

COURSE CONTENT

The course is organised into 6 Pools of content. You will have access to the material through our online Classroom and can work at your own pace. You will also have a mentor session as you complete each Pool.

POOL 1 GETTING STARTED

Clarifying what you determine a quite practice to be - what is it? what are the outcomes? and framing the question within some accessible neuroscience.

POOL 2 SENSING OUTWARDS

No cushion practice yet! Getting to know your senses through connecting to nature and delving into the priniciples of phenomenology.

POOL 3 SENSING INWARDS

Turning sensing inward, discovering and exercising your capacity for interoception.

POOL 4 STEPPING BACK

Time to review how  your contemplative, quiet practice might take shape, and an exploration into the concept of "witnessing" and how this differs from sensing, feeling and thinking.

POOL 5 MAKING TIME

We will be inviting you to set in place a "practice" by consciously allowing time for quietness within the bookends of a beginning and an ending.

POOL 6 MAKING MORE TIME

Evaluating a practice that you have created, making tweaks or wholesale changes, spiralling in to consolidate or spiralling out to explore another approach.

COURSE DATES

You can begin this programme of study at anytime. We recommend you allow at least 6 weeks to complete and probably no more than 12 weeks to complete.

Who is this course suitable for? 

This course if for teachers who are looking to refresh and update their use of props for accessibility and for variety.

& MATERIALS

Along with your self-paced study you will have 6 hours of live mentoring.

MATERIALS

There are six Pools of content guiding you through various aspects and approaches to a quiet practice (meditation).

  • A variety of downloadable PDF materials will be provided along with links to audio and video resources. These are all available through our online Classroom.

  • You will need access to a computer, (printer, if you like hard copy materials) and internet connectivity. In addition, a notebook for journaling (plus any art materials you might like to work with).

  • You will also need to have access to Zoom for your mentor sessions.

ASSESSMENT

  • We ask you to provide a summary of your reflections following each Pool of study, including a record of your personal practice.

BEVERLEY NOLAN

Founder of Barefoot Body, Beverley specialises in embodied anatomy, somatic psychology and professional practice and has a non-academic interest in history and philosophy.

Are there any prerequisites?

This course is open to all yoga teachers.

 
 
 
 

FEES & PAYMENT

Full course fees are £220 with payment plans to help spread the cost.

 Fees include:

  • 6 hours of live sessions via Zoom with your mentor.

  • Downloadable materials in PDF format and links to curated audio and video resources.

  • Feedback from your reflective summaries (submitted at the end of each Pool).
