Unravel the somatics of trauma-awareness in relation to yoga and other movement modalities on this stand-alone course, lead by Ashley MacDonald. Ideal not only for yoga teachers but also movement facilitators, body-workers and registered therapists working with individuals that have experienced various forms of trauma. This is a refreshed syllabus comprehensively integrating our previous level 1 and 2 offerings. If you have previously attended our L1 training, do get in touch for how to advance your knowledge through access to this revised course. ​ This will be an IN-PERSON only course and there will be no more than 14 participants to ensure a high-quality learning experience. ​ Understand the basics of trauma theory and the principles of a trauma-informed practice (including invitational language, introspection, choice-making, and authenticity) Gain awareness of the many forms of trauma (cultural, community, complex, racial, transgenerational, relational etc.) Cultivate a deeper understanding of the mind/body connection and what it means to be trauma-informed Recognise the role yoga, movement and/or body awareness can play in supporting people with trauma, PTSD, and related mental health difficulties Explore basic movement practices and how they could be integrated into general yoga and therapeutic movement settings Unpack unconscious bias around privilege and power in order to prevent causing unintentional harm Dip into the neuroscience of trauma Develop the need for a working practice of supervision/support for those facilitating practices within specialised settings Explore vicarious trauma and other issues surrounding the work of trauma-inclusive interventions, gaining skills at supporting oneself in this work. UNIT 1: TRAUMA THEORY & PRACTICES UNIT 2: CORE PRINCIPLES & THEIR APPLICATION IN YOGA AND MOVEMENT FACILITATION & BODYWORK SCENARIOS UNIT 3: PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE DATES The course will take place in Central Cambridge over 5 days: November 20-24 in Cambridge from 10.30-4.30.
