A TRAUMA-INFORMED APPROACH TO YOGA NIDRA

Explore the transformative practice of yoga nidra in a small group setting of no more than 12 people. Learn to guide your students into a state of deep relaxation for both body and mind in a trauma-sensitive manner, and develop your own personal practice.

Understand the physiological responses to deep relaxation, meditation and sleep

Discover the history and yogic principles underpinning the practice

Get familiar with matters of trauma-awareness and how they are applied to yoga nidra

Unpick the intentions and practice of yoga nidra from a somatic perspective

Learn the teaching techniques to structure, script and deliver a trauma-aware yoga nidra session

COURSE CONTENT

This course is designed for teachers with an existing 200 hour yoga teacher training certificate. The content assumes you have some experience in anatomy and physiology, class planning and teaching methodologies.

UNIT 1 ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY

A focus on the neuroscience of relaxation, sleep and meditation, including trauma awareness.

UNIT 2 SUBTLE ANATOMY

The Kosha/Panca Maya model will be explored theoretically and in embodied explorations.

UNIT 3 HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY

The philosophical underpinnings of the practice of Yoga Nidra, its history and contemporary threads.

UNIT 4 PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

How to craft a script and deliver a trauma-aware practice. Teaching techniques and methodologies.

DATES & VENUE

The training will be held from Friday 30th October to Sunday 1st November 2020 between 10.30am and 5.30pm at The ARC Centre in London.

 

The centre is easily accessible with good transport routes as well as accommodation options for those that need them. Mats and props are provided. 

 

Free tea is included on all training days!

STUDY

  • 6 hours of pre-course study including reading and self-reflection assignments. This ensures everyone arrives primed and well prepared

  • 12 hours of post-course study to complete assessed assignments

ASSESSMENT

  • Assessment includes: 

    • 60 minute lesson plan

    • Submission of an audio recorded yoga nidra practice for feedback on criteria including structure, suitability of content, and inclusivity

    • Self-practice journal

 

MATERIALS

  • 8 weeks prior to the start date, you'll received the Course Manual and a reading list detailing the texts you'll need to access

  • Comprehensive course handouts will be provided

  • You'll need access to a computer, internet, audio recording device (eg. on your phone), printer, and stationery.  Mats and props are provided on trainings days

However, if you are registered on our 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training, this could form part of your personal portfolio of Electives Training hours.

We're committed to minimising financial barriers, which is why we offer a variety of payment options. Deposit payments are a guide and can be adapted to suit individual financial circumstances.

  • Travel, accommodation, and catering/subsistence costs

  • Costs associated with access to a computer, internet connectivity, email account, printer, stationery, and camera for video assignment (contact us for Learning Support)

REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS

  • Your deposit is non-refundable in all circumstances. 

  • We will only refund a whole training fee for fees paid in full prior to the date 8 weeks before your course start date, minus your deposit. 

  • No refunds will be offered on training fees on cancellations after this date.

  • Fees are non-transferable to another training.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate their need for financial support, their dedication to the practice of yoga, as well as present their vision for taking the practice off the mat and out into community/outreach settings.
